Fonroche Lighting has carried out a complete life cycle assessment (LCA) of its Smartlight range of solar street lamps, evaluating their environmental impact.
This LCA was carried out in accordance with ISO 14040 and ISO 14044 standards. To provide a basis for comparison, our teams also carried out the same LCA on conventional streetlights connected to the electricity grid.
WHAT IS A LIFE CYCLE ASSESSMENT?
The aim of this process is to study the environmental impact of a product at all stages of its life cycle, from manufacture to use and recycling.
In order to assess the carbon impact of our products, the LCA was related to the carbon emissions generated per night, over a lifespan based on 40 years, which corresponds to the longest lifespan of each component.

COMPARISON OF ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT
In a comparison of solar vs. wired life cycle analyses, Fonroche Lighting's streetlight has a carbon impact 2 times lower than the conventional wired solution.
Despite the higher carbon content of the manufacturing phase, due in particular to the storage system, the solar solution's balance sheet is largely offset by its low CO2 emissions during the installation and use phases.
